The Oxford Handbook of Law and Management (Preface)

It has been 25 years since I first asserted in a Financial Times Mastering Management piece
(Bagley, 2000) that managers could use the law as a positive force to increase firm value. A key takeaway from that article and my book Winning Legally: How to Use the Law to Create Value, Marshal Resources, and Manage Risk (Bagley, 2005) was that law not only constrains firms’ activities, it also offers tools managers can use to manage the firm more effectively.
